$200,000 Scratchers Winner Calls it a 'Late Christmas Present'

Feb. 02, 2024

A Missouri Lottery player was taking advantage of some post-holiday sales while at Walmart, 301 E. Cooper Blvd. in Warrensburg, when he decided to purchase a “Season’s Greetings” Scratchers ticket.

“My wife actually scratched off the ticket,” he said. “She scratched off the first number and she just goes, ‘We just won $10,000.’”

Already excited, he commented that the prize would make a good down payment on a car – not realizing the ticket contained a much bigger prize.

“She scratched it all off and everything was a winner, up to the $200,000 one!” he said.

He said they celebrated the win immediately.

“We told the family, and we were all yelling and screaming and hugging and stuff!” he said. “It was a well-deserved late Christmas present!”

In FY23, players in Johnson County won more than $6.2 million in Missouri Lottery prizes, retailers received more than $639,000 million in commissions and bonuses, and more than $7.1 million in Lottery proceeds went to education programs in the county.
